Why do we need mentors? It is how we learn. They are our role models. Hopefully, we attract powerful, successful, happy, and positive ones. They can affect our lives in such amazing ways, we want to be sure we are inviting the best.
We also want to be sure we have enough people around us to support and help us besides family members and friends. If we lean on someone too much, we drain their energy.
In the art of Feng Shui, Mentors/Helpful people are considered a vital part of our success in life. Without people in our lives to aid, help, support, make us grow, we don’t live a balanced life.
Here are a few key Feng Shui Tips for Attracting Powerful Mentors:
1)Activate the Northwest part of your home with metal or water elements. This is the area of the Feng Shui Bagua (life map), that is considered to affect helpful people.
2) Add grays, blacks or whites to this area. These colors represent metal which will activate the area. Maybe a painting, vase, cloth, etc. in those colors.
3) Place something that reminds you of mentoring or being helped. Perhaps a picture of a powerful person you admire, a spiritual icon, etc. See yourself being helped and guided in your goals. Maybe take a picture from a magazine of someone surrounded by successful people and being happy. Place a picture of yourself in that scene. Quan Yin is used in feng shui for her compassionate healing energy so if you want to attract that in your life, you could place her in this area.
4)Write an Intention. Intentions create movement as well. Write things like,” I have plenty of supportive people in my life and all the help I need”.
5) Make a Decision to only be around those who “lift you up” and support you. Wish the others well but move along. You deserve to have people in your life who want to give to you not take.
6) Take Action. Seek out those you would love to be like. Take someone you admire out for tea or coffee. Ask them if they would share their expertise with you.
7) Have a Resource List. Make a list of lawn care, housecleaning, dog sitter, a/c person, painter, etc…. all those people who can help to make your life easier. Place it on your fridge or somewhere you can see it. It will remind you that you have all the help you need at your fingertips. They are just a phone call away.
6) Become a mentor. I mentor in the Big Sister Program. I grew up the eldest and only girl. I had no mentors until I was 40 yrs. old! I did not grow up being taught to look for those you would model yourself after and ask them for help. I would have loved a big sister or someone I could bounce things off of while I was growing up. Parents can be mentors but often times an unbiased opinion is needed. By mentoring someone or being a helpful person in someone’s life, you will always have those people in yours. It is natural law. It is not why you do it, but it just happens energetically.
Keep in Mind…
Be that which you wish to have in your life. Don’t allow anyone in your life that does not add to your energy. Seek out dynamic, successful and happy people to learn and grow. Successful people are usually more than happy to share their stories, resources, and expertise. Having lunch with someone who is always complaining about not having people in their lives, having to do everything themselves, is not good for your morale. They need your energy to feel good.
By the same token, when seeking out mentors, be sure to be mindful of their time and space. It is a gift they are giving you. Cherish it, don’t abuse it or them. Don’t be a taker but a giver. Let them know how much you appreciate them and their time. Do something nice for them. If a business person, you can ask if they are on Yelp or Google as you would be happy to leave them a review.
Wishing you and yours powerful, positive, and helpful people in your life always,
