What to Expect: Year of the Pig 2019

December 31, 2018 by Belinda Mendoza 2 Comments

Well, I hope you had a great New Year and an even better Year of the Dog. If not, you have a great opportunity in 2019 with Earth Pig.  He brings in much prosperity, wealth, joy, and abundance. It is a year that all the signs will have an opportunity to do well.

January is the time to prepare for the Chinese New Year or the Lunar Year. Make sure to de-clutter, get rid of old unused items. Get rid of anything you do not want to take into the new year. Write powerful intentions for your desires in the year. Clean your house and yard. These are good ways to set the tone for new beginnings. It is always important to remedy the flying stars for the year. This is part of Classical Feng Shui that is so powerful in creating a harmonious and prosperous year.

In Chinese culture, Year of the Pig is a sign of wealth and good fortune. The 12th of all zodiac animals, the Pig has a beautiful personality and while they don’t stand out in a crowd, they are known to be realistic and reliable. They enjoy living the good life, but aren’t quick to spend on just anything. When they do spend, it’s on the occasional materialistic item that represents their hard work to achieve it.

It’s not officially Chinese New Year 2019 until Tuesday, February 5 but Year of the Pig will already be active starting January 1 so it’s not too early.

In 2019 in particular, Pigs are represented through the Earth element and are naturally social butterflies. They adore their friends and have a life filled with plenty of support. They aren’t the most romantic, but find success in life.

CAREER

Avoid changing careers in 2019. Work hard and be cautious of conflict, approach problems with practicality and patience when faced with confrontation. 2019 is not the year for large investments or gambling. While Pigs are often fairly fortunate, this year will not be overly filled with wealth so spend wisely.

EDUCATION

When thinking about pursuing higher education, 2019 is a great year for classes and courses as it will position you for greater opportunities in the future.

HEALTH

2019 is an important year to take care and keep a close eye on smaller health-related ailments that can become more serious. While major illnesses aren’t expected, that all depends on Pigs taking proper care of those smaller issues when/if they arise. If you’re feeling under the weather, don’t ignore it. Eat more fruits and vegetables for a boosted immune system and maintain a healthy, balanced diet throughout 2019.

LOVE

While it’s not a year of true romance, it’s still a year for new friendships and new prospects for the future. Be mindful of relationships and connections that don’t work out and learn from those experiences. 2019 will be all about learning what works and what doesn’t. Focus on growing your group of friends before rushing into new relationships. If you’re already in a relationship going into the new year, listen to your partner and improve the communication between the two of you to avoid any resentment.

Feng Shui for Pets

December 18, 2018 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

When we think about feng shui, we typically think about how it provides healthier, happier and more balanced lives for people, but pets are definitely included in the mix. Arranging a space can help improve relationships in your life so this naturally includes the bond you have with your animal.

Clutter plays a big part in pets feeling anxious and uneasy especially in a new home. Do you have a new pet on the way? Does your dog or cat feel out of place? Transform your home to a level of peace and tidiness so that your pet has plenty of room to roam and relax. When thinking about adopting from a shelter, know that these pets are accustomed to a chaotic lifestyle so bringing them to their forever home should be a safe one.

When it’s time for some shut eye, place your pet’s bedding in the corner of a room where it tends to feel coziest. Avoid triangular patterns and other shapes with sharp corners. Pet blankets are wonderful ways to enhance their space and make them feel warm and comfortable during the night.

Where to place your pet’s food is also a nice way to implement feng shui. Stone or ceramic dishes represent earth energy and paired with earth tones/colors, it helps with your pet’s overall appetite.

If you have a cat, be sure their litter box is cleaned regularly. A dirty litter box is one of the easiest ways to clog the energy in your home. Placing this in a bathroom or laundry room will help symbolize that nearby pipes are flushing out negative chi. This will also help your cat feel like they can go to a room of privacy.

Tips to keep pets calm during New Year’s Eve fireworks:

  • Keep pets confined to a quiet room
  • Play soft and soothing music
  • Give your pets a tasty peanut butter filled treat to distract them from the noise
  • Provide them with cool and clean water to keep their temperature at bay
  • Keep identification on them if they’re near a doorway that leads outdoors
  • Keep them on a  leash with tags if you’re taking them out to potty
  • Provide blankets for added comfort
  • Close the windows of your home

During Christmas or any other festive celebrations, avoid giving your pet table food that may be hard to digest. Baby carrots and peanut butter are safe snacks for your pets as a special treat (in moderation) instead of bones and other leftovers you may be tempted to give them.

Holiday Feng Shui Guide

November 19, 2018 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

From gifting loved ones to helping the less fortunate, holidays are all about the time we spend with family and friends. It’s a time to feel grateful and show appreciation for everything you have. Sometimes the best way to show gratitude is by doing nice things for others and keeping yourself free of stress – allowing yourself to enjoy the moment and live in the now.

Wrap gifts according to who receives them

We might not realize, but the color of our gift wrapping can make things easier to organize and it’s a wonderful way to implement a feng shui cure into your festivities. In feng shui, colors symbolize a lot of things but especially joy and abundance which is so important during this time of year. What better way to pass on happiness and gratitude then through the colors of your gift wrapping or gift tags. For your father, use gold. For your mother, red or purple. Children, silver. Boys, blue or greens. Girls, reds and pinks. Grandparents, golds and purples. Neighbors and friends, red.

Personalize holiday cards

One of the most special things that come with the season is the occasional surprise that’s waiting in your mailbox. It’s rare to receive personalized letters with technology and texts, but this is a great way to add a personalized touch to your holiday wishes. A  sentimental card or nice family photo is a treasure that goes a long way.

Gold is always a nice touch

Although small, gold coins pass on abundance, wealth and opportunity. Not only does it signify money, but it’s a great add-on to any gift and it’s also an awesome insert for your holiday cards. Whether it’s Chinese coins, chocolate coins or another form of gold, these work well for colleagues, friends and family. Pair with a colorful box of oranges for your next potluck or gathering!

The power of festive lighting

Lighting is great feng shui and whether you are decorating your plants with tiny lights or wrapping garland with strings of bright colors. Outline the front door or foyer with lighted garland for extra energy into your home. It welcomes all who enter and calls for new opportunities.

Donate used toys and canned foods to those in need

A special touch to helping those in need is by decluttering and donating those items to a good cause. Donate canned foods to your local food bank and clothing, toys and other miscellaneous items to your local shelter, toy drive or charity. Not only will you feel great about clearing the clutter, but you will know that your unused items are going to help someone else this season. Also, this is a great time to make sure there’s nothing broken in your home.

Feng Shui Tips for a Festive Season

November 8, 2018 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

Holidays brings happiness, cheer, abundance and some much needed time with family and friends. Would you like to create a harmonious work and living space? Maximize on your joy this season with some helpful tips!

Spread kindness this holiday season and create a Gratitude Jar! In case you missed our latest newsletter, below are instructions to create your own jar to feel thankful all season long.

Belinda’s Gratitude Exercise for Abundance

This is my version of a gratitude exercise that has worked for me and many other clients. It’s great if you feel stuck, don’t have enough money coming in, or want more from a current relationship. It resets the clock energetically, raises your money vibration, and brings in new ideas and opportunities. The key to abundance and having a loving relationship is to appreciate what you currently have and not focus on what is missing.  This exercise is done for 27 days (good feng shui number for manifesting).
Materials needed:
A pretty jar, vase, or box, some pieces of paper, a pen.
Where to place:
On a bedside table, home office desk or an altar, to name a few suggestions. I work from home so I’m at my desk each morning and it works well to have it there for me.
When to begin:
First of the month, new moon, or a day of the week that feels good to you. If you miss a day in this process, just keep going.
Instructions:
On day one, write down on a piece of paper something you are grateful for. I like to cut up pieces of paper ahead of time (27 about the size of post it notes) so I am ready to write each day.
Next day, write something else.  Keep doing this until day 27.  At end of 27 days you will feel great, better than before, like a new person.  New things will have come into your life you did not expect.  The universe LOVES gratitude!  Honest, deeply felt gratitude expands energy.
If a relationship you are currently in has become stagnant or you feel disconnected from your partner, this exercise for 27 days just on the relationship, will change it for the better.  Being grateful for what your partner brings to your life rather than seeing what is lacking, will move you both to a better place and feeling. You both need to do one separately.
If you find this exercise challenging because you are in such a low place, be grateful for your hearing, your eyes, your taste.  If you have to repeat some things its fine.  If you write I am grateful for my health on one or two days, its fine.  The key is to keep going, adding new things, however small they might seem to you.
Examples of things we might not think to write:
“I am grateful for my mailman who always brings me my mail on time or not, it always arrives.  I love receiving checks in the mail.”
At the end of the 27 days, just throw the paper away and start all over.  It’s a great exercise to do with kids.  You can place the jar on the kitchen counter and each family member can write things they feel grateful for.  At the end of the month, have a nice meal together and read them out loud.

Tips for holiday decor

Incorporate green, green, green! The color is a positive representative of money coming into your home and creates a stress free and peaceful environment. No one wants to sulk around feeling overwhelmed with the holidays so finds ways to add green touches. Garland is a gorgeous way of decorating with green and should be hung in an upward (smiling) direction to hint on happiness and joy. Christmas trees are also a great way to get creative and hang sentimental objects and colors to your holiday decor. They bring in the color green and are associated with the wood element. It’s also a fun activity to do while watching your favorite Hallmark Christmas movie and/or listening to your favorite Christmas album while drinking cider or hot chocolate!
Decorate with wood! A feng shui element that is associated with friends and family, wood is such an excellent touch to your decorations. Whether it’s with a fun festive message or a wooden picture frame, it can make a room cozy and comfortable for company. What better way to say “Welcome to my home!”
Use your scents. The playful use of smells can transform a space quickly and efficiently. In a nut shell, candles and incense are wonderful and trigger happy memories and moments of love, friendship and kindness. Fun fact, soy candles are the safest options as they are all natural without harmful artificial aromas when lit. If you’re a pet owner, be mindful of ingredients in candles to ensure your pets aren’t breathing in harmful contents. The more natural, the better for you and your furry friends!
Food and drink for the table. Place bowls of fruit and nuts throughout your gathering space. It’s an easy way to highlight on abundance and it ensures you include elements of prosperity. Wine also represents abundance and prosperity. It makes guests feel at home and offers a social environment for laughs and joy.

Fall Decorating with Feng Shui

October 1, 2018 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

Our previous post, Feng Shui Tips for Fall, touched on the basics when welcoming fall into your home, but this post is an in-depth tutorial on how to fully transform for the season!

Decorating our homes can be fun, but overwhelming at anytime, but decorating for the upcoming holidays is an even greater challenge. There are so many different ways to decorate your home and office. What are the best ways for you? What is it that you want to achieve? We’re here to help!

Lighthearted laughs, delicious dinners, stress-free weeks and money in our pockets are just some of the things we want to achieve with Feng Shui. Do you have rooms set for company? Do you have mirrors in the right place? Have you managed to incorporate the right color scheme for maximum abundance?

A touch of intimacy

When you think of the holidays, you typically think of those special moments with family and friends. Everyone gathers together and for a moment there is a brief moment of utter peace and closeness. The tables are set beautifully with floral and unique centerpieces, the fireplace is lit on cold winter days and these elements combined make the moment all the more memorable. In Feng Shui, intimacy can be achieved through seating. Keep the chairs close, but not too close. Faced towards each another versus apart. The type of energy you want to achieve comes with the arrangement of furniture. Warm conversations and happy gatherings!

Clear the way

The first things guests see when they walk in for a gathering is the hallway. In Feng Shui, the entryway is a place of vitality and abundance. It’s naturally where the energy enters and exits. A strongly-colored area rug, reds are always a good idea, or a cozy side table can help decorate the space and it allows you to create a space for fall decor like pumpkins and candles. Mirrors in the foyer are helpful – just be sure it’s not directly facing the door! One key tip… make sure your front door opens completely to ensure that you welcome the most energy and prosperity into your home.

Light the room

If you’re really lucky, you’ll have rooms throughout that are adorned with natural lighting. If not, incorporate ways to put elegant fixtures and chandeliers so that you can stay far away from dark corners. The more lighting you have, the more your decorations (and energy) will shine!

More Metal

Coins and special feng shui symbols often bring us moments of abundance in money, love and happiness. These little trinkets are very meaningful during the holidays and it’s a great way to highlight on how powerful they can be. Not only do they make great gifts, but they are also great for distributing on your dining tables at Thanksgiving and Christmas for prosperity for all! Entertaining can act as a way to attract the positive energy that metal can bring.

Candles of course

When we think of fall, most likely we think of the cozy moments when we can incorporate the fire element. We can leave warm and humid days behind (for a moment) and bask in the warm and delicious scents that cold weather can bring. What are your favorite types of candles? Toasted marshmallow, cinnamon, apple and vanilla are some of our favorites. The wonderful thing about candles is that they can be placed in bathrooms for relaxation, dining tables for intimacy, foyers for warming up the entrance and to beautify fireplaces. Using different scents can trigger lovely memories from previous years.

Contact us to help you set up your living room, dining room or entire home for entertaining this season. It will help to promote harmony and peace-filled holidays.

Happy October and Autumn Season!
