Feng Shui Tips to Transform Your Space into a Festive Holiday Escape

November 6, 2021 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

The holidays are quickly approaching and with that comes an opportunity to use feng shui practices to make the most of the season with decor techniques that add prosperity to your home while also creating more joy and less stress. There are various ways we can place our decor with purpose so that we can achieve balance in each room and create a clear space for family, friends and yourself to enjoy.

When thinking about the holidays, it’s easiest to start with what you envision in your plans and how you want to feel when you walk into your home. What energy do you feel when you step inside? The holidays are especially important when it comes to feng shui practices because we often find ourselves stressed and exhausted if we aren’t careful. The good news is there are ways to channel where we want joy to live with the use of colors and the placement of objects.

TIPS TO CREATE A FESTIVE HOLIDAY ESCAPE

  • The entryway is key – It’s the first area of the home you see when you walk in so it should hold importance accordingly. First and foremost, the entryway should be clear and free of clutter since it’s a high foot traffic area. Your entryway sets the tone for the entire house so it should be an example that other rooms should follow using techniques like bright pops of color or a decor statement piece that welcomes guests.
  • Cleanse the home – There are several ways to clear a home of negative energies so whether you are using sage or Palo Santo, find time to give your home a refresh with a quick clearing. This is especially important before and after hosting a gathering as this can reset your home to its original state of peace. Space clearings are also essential when removing the mix of energies left behind from guests which can throw the home off balance.
  • Going for the gold – The holidays are a great way to welcome abundance and prosperity and a great way to achieve both is through color! Silvers and golds are ideal colors that can add an extra touch of luxury and both are closely tied to the Water element which can soothe the home and create a calm space. Gold also attracts wealth, prosperity and good luck. As we are buying gifts and spending more than other months, it’s best to add gold to your decor plans.
  • The power of plants – Not only do plants incorporate the traditional hue of festive greens, but they can also purify the air and enhance the wood element which is associated with growth and kindness. Plants create a sense of stillness that allows you to feel relaxed. Healthy plants also symbolize new beginnings and renewed relationships. Using fresh garland is a natural way to use plants to freshen up a room and brighten your home for a cozy night in or elegant holiday dining experience. Try creating mini wreaths with garland and place a handle in the center of it for some tranquil ambiance.
  • Define your dining area – When sharing a meal with others, the dining space becomes the central room for time spent with loved ones. When thinking about your dining decor, tables with sharp edges are not recommended and colors should be muted and more neutral than other rooms in the home. The dining area should be inviting and comfortable since conversations and meals will be shared here.

Using these tips, you can adjust to make it your own and make your home feel like a safe place for you to go from hosting to relaxing. These will help to maximize the positive energy coming in and allows you to have control over the energy in your space in a way that feels most authentic. As you start to transform your space, keep your intentions in mind. These intentions will help to guide you to what’s most practical for you.

Happy Holidays!

Dia De Los Muertos – Creating a Feng Shui Enhanced Space for Loved Ones

October 22, 2021 by Belinda Mendoza 1 Comment

As Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) approaches, it reminds us to think about our ancestors, family, friends, and pets who have passed. They lived their life for a time and are now no longer with us. Cherishing their memory and celebrating their life is good feng shui. On the Bagua (feng shui map), there is a sector for mentors and family in the Northwest direction. While many create altars across the globe on this day it is not for sadness but for joy – a time to reminisce and a tradition that can bring healing. The occasion, traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2, helps us remember all the great qualities of the deceased, what they taught us, how they may have inspired us and what we can carry forward.

This is especially a poignant time for me as I just lost my beloved mother last week. While I miss her dearly, I cherish the memories we had together. I want to thank and celebrate her in a special way for the wonderful qualities she bestowed upon me so I can better carry on her legacy. I plan to prepare a beautiful altar for her. I’ll also add a picture of my beautiful Mom to my altar. It is how I want to remember her. This post is also dedicated to her.

The day was initially created by ancient indigenous people of Mexico who celebrated the lives of past ancestors for centuries. When it was first created, the celebration landed on the ninth month of the Aztec calendar and was observed for the entire month. In present day, the month long festivities were condensed to 3 total days called The Days of the Dead: Halloween on October 31, Day of the Innocents on November 1, and Day of the Dead on November 2.

This year in particular will be an occasion where I will be able to honor my mother through a Dia De Los Muertos altar, also known as an ofrenda, filled with all of the items she loved. In Feng shui, this is important because a big part of creating a safe space in your home is by incorporating family within it. I will be able to create a space for my mother’s memory and place items like photos and momentos to make the most out of this special occasion. A common figurine or image is of detailed and ornate skulls with roses, marigolds, other florals and colorful designs – this brings joy into the home and allows for the weight of grief to take a backseat.

The altar also prevents stagnant and negative energy from coming inside the home. A moment of remembrance that peace versus exhaustion and joy versus sadness. The wonderful thing about this tradition is that it’s not to be a sad time. In fact, it tends to bring the opposite energies into your home and often brings families together in conversation while exchanging stories of those being remembered.

As we are creating this year’s altars (ofrendas), we can all find joy in the vibrant memories. As a tip, both H-E-B and Target have Dia De Los Muertos collections of items you can get to help create your space from tapestries to banners and frames for your loved ones. We can use these days to bring light back into our home.

Love and Miss you Mom.

Feng Shui for Self-Care

August 8, 2019 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

What is self-care?

Taking care of oneself at all levels : Emotionally, Spiritually, Physically, and Mentally.

It’s an integral part of having good feng shui and living a happy life. Abundance is not just about money, wealth or success. It’s about having your whole life align into harmony. If our health is poor, we feel weak or sickly and we cannot accomplish our dreams or desires very easily. In my work, I address what people want and work towards setting up a flow for them to achieve them with more ease and grace.

Feng Shui is not just about re-arranging furniture. Its about setting your intentions. How do you want your environment to affect you? What actions will you take? Feng Shui is about increasing momentum for the things you desire.

Self-Care is the first step.

No matter what your life looks like right now, it’s important to include time for you in your schedule. I work with business owners who now achieve more growth and prosperity than ever before. Right after their consultation they are usually overworked and stressed. This, of course, is not good feng shui. Know and trust that the abundance you are experiencing will always be there. Rest assured that taking care of yourself with good nutrition, sleep, and a happy mindset, will not slow you down.

Here’s an article with good tips on Self-Care:

Simple and Affordable Self-Care Practices for Busy People
By Emma Grace Brown

If you think self-care isn’t for you because it takes too much time and money, think again. Self-care is about relieving stress and feeling joy. It can be as simple as walking the dog, reading a book, or hitting a few golf balls on your favorite course. There’s no need to overspend or cut into family time because self-care practices can be worked into your daily routine conveniently and inexpensively. Below are a few ideas you should consider.

Turn Off the Phone and Just Breathe.

It can be hard to stop and decompress for 10 or 15 minutes in the midst of a busy day. However, it doesn’t take much time and actually works wonders for your mood, not to mention your blood pressure. If you feel too distracted to just breathe and let your mind wander for a moment, try turning off your smartphone. More than likely, there’s nothing so pressing that you can’t shut down for a few minutes now and then. Let calls go to voicemail, and return a text or email later on. Tuning out can take some getting used to when you’re constantly on the go, but the benefits of just enjoying the quiet for a few minutes can make a positive difference.

Early Morning Solace
Add another restful ritual to your daily routine by getting up early each morning, enjoying a nutritious breakfast, and doing some simple exercises. It can be a soothing daily touchstone if you don’t like racing out the door, jumping into heavy traffic and feeling frazzled when you reach the office. Declare the snooze button off limits and kick off each day the healthy way.

Take Vacation Time Seriously
There’s a reason your employer offers paid vacation time: They want you to take it because they know the value of time away from the office. So, don’t let this very important benefit go to waste— your brain and body need the time away. If you’re concerned about the cost of travel and lodging, look into a vacation spot closer to home, or enjoy a staycation. As Turnkey explains, there are many fun sights to enjoy in and around Austin, from local favorites like Lake Travis and Lake Austin to something a little more out of the way and offbeat, such as a Haunted Austin Walking History Tour. Regardless of what you choose to do, make sure it’s something you enjoy and find relaxing, which is essentially the cornerstone of self-care.

Go Green
You don’t have to be a master gardener to add some relaxing greenery to your home and work environment. Green plants keep you breathing purified air and give your surroundings a pleasant, natural feel that can help relieve stress. Small-scale indoor horticulture is inexpensive and doesn’t take up much time. Just keep your plants watered.

Dialogue with Yourself (on Paper)
You go through a lot during the course of a busy workday. Each day is full of little frustrations and people who get on your nerves. Swallowing all that frustration is unhealthy and it’s totally unnecessary. Instead, try making sense of your thoughts and feelings by writing them down in a daily journal. Journaling can provide a positive and thoughtful form of emotional relief.

Keep Moving
If you don’t want to spend money on a gym membership, remember that the important thing is to keep moving. Look for ways to work at least 30 minutes of vigorous movement into your day. That could mean parking farther away from work and walking part of the way, taking the stairs
instead of the elevator, or going for a brisk walk on your lunch break.

Self-care should be simple, fun, and very relaxing. You don’t have to rack up credit card charges to engage in productive, restorative self-care. Instead, emphasize low-impact activities that don’t demand much time or cost a lot of money.

10 Tips for Choosing a Feng Shui Consultant That’s Right for You

May 22, 2019 by Belinda Mendoza 3 Comments

Finding the right feng shui consultant can be a daunting task but if you’re in the process of (or considering) this for your life then these tips will help guide you along the way. Whether you are wanting to attract love, general guidance, money or better health, feng shui helps to realign and rearrange the space and chi around you. You’d be surprised how much objects and energy can directly impact our lives and feng shui allows you to fully absorb the effects of your belongings, your home, your office and areas where you spend most of your time.

Key Tips for Choosing a Feng Shui Consultant to Elevate Your Home & Your Life

  1. Know why you need a consultant. Do your best to identify any problems you may be having prior to your first consultation.
  2. Ask for a referral. Many have worked with consultants already and can recommend what’s right for you! Check their reviews on Google, Yelp and via social media testimonials.
  3. Do your homework. Make sure they are well-trained in Classical Feng Shui from either a good school or Master Teacher. Other methods are less effective in working with chi on all levels. Feng Shui works with both Time and Space.
  4. Interview carefully. Make sure they have experience. Ask questions like: How long have you been doing this work? What types of clients do you mostly work with? What kind of results did they get? Get the specifics like if their health improved, they got a new job, a new partner, more money flow, increased business by 20% in the first month, etc. Also, ask for references if you’re still unsure.
  5. Make sure they answer all your questions easily. Be sure to get a free informational consultation by phone or a quick chat at a coffee shop or their business.
  6. Get a good contract. Get clear on fees. Are there extra fees for implementation beyond the consultation?
  7. Be prepared to get started. Let your spouse or employees know what you will be doing and introduce them to your consultant. If possible, send kids off on the day of your consult so you can devote all your time and concentration to the project.
  8. Be ready to hear good news and bad news. Once you hire a consultant you owe it to yourself to follow their recommendations. Do the best you can and discuss options for things that don’t seem possible for you. Discuss any timeline changes ahead of time. Maybe you will be out of town or on vacation after beginning the project. If possible, it’s best to begin and finish in one go to get optimum results.
  9. How do you feel about them? Do you get a good sense that you can work together well?
  10. Finally, schedule your appointment and get started to improve the energy flow in your life and business for even more success!

Feng Shui for Finding a Job

March 19, 2019 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

Whether you are looking for a new job or career or just want the one you have to be improved in some way, feng shui can help. It helped to boost my lagging career many years ago and it’s the reason why I left that job to make feng shui a full-time business. It’s springtime and a great time to start thinking of ways to either change or boost your career and wealth goals.
In feng shui, the springtime is the season of the Wood element. This can be best represented through plants and flowers. It also symbolically means growth and opportunities with the color is green. Whether you love your job or want a new one, feng shui has techniques that can help boost or enhance current desires.
Feng Shui Tips for Spring
  • Keep windows clean
  • Remove dust and dirt
  • Deep clean appliances
  • Dump the clutter
  • Donate old clothes and shoes
  • Refresh the air with candles, purifiers and open windows
  • Sweep and mop your floors
  • Rearrange the furniture
For those who want to find a job, utilize spring time feng shui cures but also take advantage through visuals. Vision boards and intentions are great tools for creating goals for yourself. If you want a job with more opportunities for growth or higher pay, showcase that through magazine clippings, quotes and positive thoughts. Hang your vision board somewhere you can see it daily so that it serves as a constant reminder of what you want to achieve.
Feng Shui Tip: Print out a posting of the ideal position or job you want and paste it on a red piece of construction paper. Place it on the South wall of your office to bring recognition and fame to you.
The way you present yourself can also impact how you are viewed at job interviews. Find your power pose and dress accordingly. Not only will this help gain a sense of confidence. A strong outfit will help mentally prepare you for success and will showcase your dedication for the position that you want.
Is your home filled with mess? Clear the clutter and make room for the job that you want. Do you have an office in your home? If so, prepare it for abundance by discarding junk mail and papers. Have your desk clear and ready so that you can apply to jobs in peace and transform your old office into a new one.
Reduce the amount of negative energy around you. It’s amazing how much bad energy can affect your mentality and overall positivity. If you are looking for a big change, get rid of as much “bad chi” as you can. Bad chi consists of broken items, negative thoughts and energy leaks that can drastically effect the money flowing in and out of your home. This is especially important if you are looking for a new job specifically for higher pay.
Going through a career change can be stressful, but there are small sorts of actions and next steps that make the process easier for you. A job is not only a means to income, but it’s a form of socialization that enhances ones talents and abilities. Feng shui can be used as an important tool towards success and your dream job.
