Feng Shui to Start a Small Business

June 27, 2022 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

A business trend in 2022 is growth in entrepreneurship. More people are starting their own businesses or adding ones to their portfolio.

The key to starting a small business is putting a solid foundation in place to create success. Feng shui offers an opportunity to achieve the most abundance so that your business can flourish and blossom for many years to come. What are your professional goals? What does your work space look like? What do you hope for from your clients? These are all questions to ask yourself as you are setting up your brand, office and business model.

Feng shui plays an important part and will be essential at laying the groundwork to get you started and ready to meet your clientele. I will share some easy ways to create a healthy flow both physically and financially using feng shui so you can start your small business with prosperous end goals in mind.

RED ENVELOPES SYMBOLIZE WEALTH

Red envelopes filled with money or a Chinese coin symbolize abundance and can be utilized in many ways, but in terms of business, this can help to establish and grow your clients and can act as an intention if labeled. As you are getting started, you can label each of the red envelopes with a client’s name to energize this folder for wealth.

THE IMPORTANCE OF ORGANIZATION

When thinking of your office space, keep in mind that it should be free of clutter – this is a gold standard in feng shui and should always be practiced, but it’s especially important for business. Keep files labeled and organized. Discard documents and papers that aren’t needed. Utilize electronic organization tools like Google Drive to store important items and free your physical office space from excess paper. Organization always means staying on top of expenses by regular tracking so bills don’t get behind and money flows without blockages. You will have more time to focus on your clients if you regularly keep everything in order. As Benjamin Franklin said, “A place for everything, everything in its place.”

THE POWER OF YOUR VISION

Visualize your quarterly and yearly goals and put those goals on paper whether that be in writing or in the form of a vision board. There is nothing more powerful than a vision board that illustrates where you see your business going and where you want to go with your brand. This acts as a symbol for success and can be hung in your office space on the West wall to inspire creativity and to serve as a reminder should you ever need motivation. Being able to visually see your goals come to life is a feng shui tool that is both easy and worthwhile. Another way to do this is to display an item that symbolizes what inspired your business and what started it all. You can even make this into a digital vision board and place on your desktop or wallpaper for daily viewing.

FENG SHUI MEANS DIGITAL TOO

Don’t forget your website. It’s where customers will go to learn more. It’s where new clients will go to get in touch. That said, it should be clean, easy to navigate and organized. Be mindful of the colors you use and choose ones that are auspicious and aligned with your goals as well. Avoid dull colors that could result in potential clients from leaving your site. The same way you select colors for a room is the way you treat your landing page. Use flowy fonts for wealth. Keep track of SEO performance as this is the #1 way that your site is discoverable online and on search engines like Google. This is a URL that will be shared across newsletters, social media, business cards, friends and referrals so take time to make it look professional and reader friendly.

ATTRACT MORE CLIENTS

Be purposeful when thinking about new clients. If you hope for two or three, place that many empty folders on your desk as an intention towards that goal. You can also do this by having two or three business cards in your purse or wallet ready to share with the next two or three people you see that might be a right fit. Having an area specifically dedicated to new clients will energize the area and encourage new faces.

START A NEWSLETTER OR SOCIAL MEDIA PAGE

Get the word out. Read our blog on Feng Shui to Reach New Audiences & Widen Your Network. Having an open line of communication is key when reaching and talking to customers on a regular basis. It should be a simple process should they have a quick question or want to connect with you outside of appointments and your website. This is a more laid-back version of the business and can be tailored to seasons, holidays and special messages and updates to connect clients together and create a community of loyal customers.

Feng Shui to Reach New Audiences & Widen Your Network

May 31, 2022 by Belinda Mendoza 1 Comment

A recent trend for business this year is attracting new audiences to enhance your network and widen your resources. A business thrives on its network, its customers and a loyal audience who care about your message and offerings. The good news is there is not a limit on the size of the audience you can reach and there is always room for growth. That said, enhancing your business with feng shui can open doors to new clientele that you never knew were available.

Here are just a few simple ways to boost your business and attract more customers:

START WITH A STRONG & POWERFUL INTENTION

What do you REALLY REALLY want for your business now? Write it in the present tense. For example: “I have 20 new customers each month or ” I have a 50% increase in my business.” Add an intention for harmony, energy, and creativity. Post this on your computer or on your vision board.

CREATE A NETWORK VISION BOARD

Instead of a full vision board with everything you want, create one just for your business. Add pictures of the kinds of clients and businesses you want to reach. Glue prosperity symbols on it like coins, crystals, or jewels. Hang it on the West wall of your office to enhance creativity and wealth.

TAKE ACTION

Along with good feng shui that is helping to create flow for you, it’s the best time to design a new sales and marketing plan. Decide to do something new and creative like Facebook lives, YouTube videos or more social media posts to reach more people.

ATTRACT WITH COLOR

The use of red, purples and greens not only help with prosperity and your business goals, but it also has a powerful impact on mood and is known to be auspicious. The great part is that you can choose a color that works well with your brand and speaks to you so be mindful of your color choices as you welcome new faces especially since you’ll see these colors daily.

A SOPHISTICATED FIRST IMPRESSION

The first impression counts and the same goes for your business. Simple, yet sophisticated touches show that you take your business seriously and this can attract new customers and bigger opportunities. The amount of space in front of your desk symbolizes the amount of opportunities in front of you so create an open space so you can look out when at your desk and see all the opportunities before you. This leaves plenty of space to meet new people, but also for your new clientele to be able to sit and communicate comfortably. An inviting space makes them wants to stay and learn more.

DIFFUSE THE ROOM

A natural essential oil diffuser can calm a space and provide scents that trigger our own internal emotions – an important factor when meeting new people. Selecting essential oils is a purposeful way of bringing a specific energy to your room. Scents like peppermint for focus and a clear head or lavender for relaxation and a stress-free area as examples. It’s an easy way to diffuse the area around you and determines how new clients will feel when they walk in.

HOST A HAPPY HOUR

A great way to meet new people and clients is to host a happy hour. Real estate agents do it all the time – they create a small, private gathering to get to know new audiences on a personal level. It’s an effective way to meet 1:1 in a way that feels comfortable and inviting. It also helps to mingle with others who are looking for the same type of service – this sense of togetherness is great for networking and future communications.

INVITE WITH LIGHT

A brightly lit area in the south corner of a work space will help to create more yang energy that activates new people and social circles. This is true for friendships too. Whether that be an industrial accent bulb or a modern lamp, it creates an area of peace and comfort. In feng shui, lights (both natural and warm bulbs) are quite effective in neutralizing negative energies and often help with balancing moods.

In business, we see our customers as our guests and we play host. We essentially want to create a place for them to want to come back to and a place where they leave feeling better than they came. Much like a spa which is designed to make you feel at ease and at peace with where you are. As hosts who use feng shui, we are ensuring that our goals are in mind in these purposeful placements and decisions. We see the most success when we take time to arrange a room and set it up for the best energy and outcome.

Spring Feng Shui Tips to Boost Your Business

March 17, 2022 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

The first day of spring is officially Sunday, March 20 and as we count down the days to warmer temps and more opportunities to be outside, we are also preparing for a new season with spring cleaning and decluttering.

Practicing feng shui for Spring is similar to practicing the art of meditation – you get the same relaxing and restoring effect while also refreshing the chi (life) energy in your home and office.  In feng shui, we often hear that the state of our spaces mirrors the state of our minds so finding moments to clear negative energy makes all the difference especially if you’re looking to boost your business ahead of summer.

If you follow me on Facebook, you’ll find that I’ve already shared these tips to boost your business:

  • First, let’s start with your desk. It’s where you spend the most time working so you’ll want to make sure it’s free of clutter to bring in new opportunities and clients for success.
  • Activate your Southeast (Wealth Sector) for more money by placing money symbols, cleaning out old financial records or even by adding a lush green plant.
  • Advance your career by adding a water feature to your office and placing it in the North corner of the space.
  • Write intentions for your business and place them in a green envelope with some real money. Place the envelopes with your intentions in the Southeast or Northeast areas of the room as these will activate money sectors this year.

There are many other ways to boost your businesses and finances this spring including these foolproof tips for success:

  • Declutter other areas in your space
  • Make sure your entryway is not only mess-free by welcoming, bright and inviting for good energy to enter
  • Buy plants or fresh springtime flowers for other parts of the office, some can even improve air quality and focus
  • Burn a sage stick to clear and purify the air or contact me for a space clearing if you’re overdue for one
  • If you can, let fresh air in! Open a door or a window, fresh air can open a space and release unwanted energy that may be stagnant but it also invites the benefits of nature and spring inside for a peaceful moment of zen
  • Position your desk in a command position to ensure control and success as you take on meetings and see clients
  • Add pops of color to promote joy while working
  • Dust away dirt and debris as this represents a clear mind and a form of self therapy
  • Add crystals to enhance a space even more as these can be targeted for different purposes including manifesting prosperity

Don’t forget spring is a bright season. Stiff muscles? Don’t forget to get up and stretch! It’s easy to go, go, go but harder to remember when to take a break. Spring is about finding time to pause, take a walk, join a meditation, have a relaxing lunch and practice balance. We can enjoy success that comes from feng shui more when we are our best selves.

Happy Spring,

Belinda

Smaller Scale Interior Design Projects That Make a Big Impact

January 10, 2022 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

Designing or decorating a space can be overwhelming. In the art of Feng Shui, no space is too small or too big to create good energy flow. It begins with a vision of what type of space you would like. How do you want it to feel and look? What are your favorite colors and themes? Maybe it’s Beach, French Country, Farmhouse or Traditional.

In Feng Shui, we use colors and shapes to reflect the Five Elements. We strive to achieve a balance of these elements. We don’t want too much wood, fire or water for example. For more information on decorating your space for balance and harmony, contact us for a free 30-minute phone consultation today.

In the meantime, here is an article for doing smaller decorating projects:

Interior design has always been an important aspect of maximizing a home’s functionality while keeping it current with the latest market trends. However, it has received increased attention from hobbyists and DIYers over the past months as they look for productive ways to use their extra time during the pandemic.

To this effect, not every interior design project needs to include a full-scale kitchen renovation or a widespread flooring replacement. The following are a few smaller-scale interior design ideas that can make a big impact on your home in as little as a few hours.

Interior Doors

When it comes to doors and home renovation, a lot of attention is given to garage doors and entrance doors that will influence people’s impressions from a curbside view. However, you can make an equally strong statement with your interior design chops by upgrading your interior doors.

An interior door upgrade is an important first step in setting the tone for a room’s style. It can be a statement piece that immediately arrests a visitor’s attention, or it can be the perfect finishing touch that remedies issues such as squeaky hinges or difficulty in latching.

There are countless interior door styles that can be implemented in as little as a few hours, making for a quick, impactful interior design upgrade. Some ideas include a sliding barn door for those going for a rustic or modern farmhouse ambiance, glass pane doors for houses trying to maintain an open light feel, or double pocket doors for those looking to leverage space to the fullest.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper is making a serious comeback in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As people have been stuck inside for months at a time, they have been exploring ways to make bold, affordable alterations to their homes to break up the monotony of staring at the same designs day after day, making wallpaper a strong choice.

Considered tacky in some interior design circles throughout the previous decades, the most popular wallpaper trends for 2021 actually involve wavy and flowy patterns to give interior spaces a bit of visual intrigue. While most modern wallpapers are easy to apply with peel-and-stick adhesives, adding wallpaper over wood paneling can be a bit of a challenge, as the grooves in the wood will still be visible through the wallpaper. Therefore, be sure to use a wallpaper liner over wood paneling to hide the grooves and create a flat surface on which to apply the product.

Windows

New windows are one of the best ways to quickly transform the feel of an interior space. A key component of open interiors that look to maximize the flow of natural light, new windows can even go as far as reducing electricity consumption and creating a more energy-efficient home.

While a window upgrade itself is a relatively straightforward renovation, you can keep it even easier by simply upgrading the accessories. If cumbersome curtains and drapery are feeling a bit dated, consider exchanging them for blinds or shades. These can provide a sleeker look and actually give the homeowner more flexibility in manipulating the sunlight that reaches the home’s interior.

Fixtures

Another trend that has emerged as a result of the pandemic has been the increased attention to the frequently touched aspects of a home. While fixtures such as doorknobs, handrails, and drawer pulls may have blended into the background in the past, they are increasingly becoming the first thing people notice as they devote more time to cleaning these surfaces.

As a result, it is vital that homeowners take the simple step of improving their fixtures during their next interior design makeover. The best fixtures for 2021 will be both elegant and able to withstand frequent cleaning, with ideas such as modern black bathroom fixtures to adorn the bathroom walls and stainless steel sink handles are just a couple of great ways to ensure both aesthetics and durability.

Cabinets

A great way to quickly make a statement without performing a full-scale kitchen renovation is through a cabinet upgrade. When people gather in the kitchen for lunch or guests stop by for a casual get-together over snacks and beverages, the cabinets are typically one of the first things they notice.

While classic wood cabinets remain a favorite for homeowners, they can often feel heavy and cumbersome in more cozy interior themes. As an alternative, wood cabinets made from bamboo veneer can provide many of the same functional and aesthetic benefits of classic wood while offering a cleaner, more contemporary feel.

Make a Big Impact With Smaller Scale Interior Design

Interior design has received increased focus in the wake of the ongoing pandemic. However, not all interior design projects require you to lose accessibility to entire areas of your house for weeks at a time. By considering the aforementioned smaller-scale interior design ideas, you can make a big impact on your home with a fraction of the time commitment of larger projects.

Natalie Akins is the Interior Design Editor at Innovative Building Materials. With over 20 years of interior design experience, Natalie has worked on many projects including commercial office design and residential spaces.

Feng Shui Tips for Flowing Through the Holidays

November 22, 2021 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

As we prepare for December, we are getting Christmas decor up and making the transition from fall to a little more festive. In feng shui, we use techniques to improve the flow and energy within a space and that includes the holidays especially since they are traditionally more fast-paced.

If December is anything like the rest of 2021, it will pass quickly so it’s important we incorporate feng shui practices to enhance the spaces around us and allow for better flow in our lives. By implementing these feng shui tips, we are allowing ourselves to be more mindful of our surroundings and how everyday items can impact our wellbeing. We know that a clean space translates to a clear mind so we want to practice good feng shui to keep the holidays free from chaos and clutter.

Good Feng Shui Starts with the Neighborhood

We see it in festive classics, but the holidays are very much surrounded by family and neighbors. This is the season of sharing, caring and thinking of others so naturally the feeling of your neighborhood can affect the energy surrounding your home. You can share a batch of cookies or loaf of bread and can even invite a neighbor to a holiday dinner to extend a neighborly hand and ensure that you are forming healthy relationships and, more importantly, creating healthy energy this holiday.

The Flow of the Front Door

We touched this in previous blog posts, but the flow of the front door is one of the most important and impactful areas to spotlight. Clear any obstacles from your front door and clear clutter to allow for better flow to enter and exit the home. The ease of flow here is especially important when thinking about visitors since this will allow energy to move as needed when other being come into play. You can also choose to brighten up this space by placing lights inside in the foyer and outside with Christmas warm lights to create an inviting entrance and positive energy. If you are unsure of how to decorate, you can contact me for feng shui decorating services.

Brighten with Crystal Balls

In feng shui, crystal balls are excellent tools to brighten a room and uplift the energy in a space. The wonderful thing about these is that it’s typically on a string of some kind which makes it easy to place on a Christmas tree as an ornament or hang in a social quarters where you might expect company. You can even hang this in an entry area to help prevent blockages and improve flow! This invites more opportunities, brightens the front door area and prevents an entry way from feeling dark or cramped.

Clean Windows for a Clear Home This Holiday

In feng shui, windows are the eyes of the people.  Want to see clearly?  Make you’re your windows are clean so you can see out of them. When you think of it, clear windows allow more light in and create a more inviting space – hence more flow. This is an excellent tip when planning for a gathering or dinner this holiday so that we can naturally energize a space and make our minds feel more awake and ready for the day and the season.

Space Clearings are the Key to the Season

One of the best things you can do this season is to incorporate a space clearing after hosting a holiday event. A space clearing acts as a reset to a space and removes stagnant energy and energies that are of no benefit to you this season. If you’ve never had a space cleaning, you can contact me for the service and questions on how this can create better flow in your home or office. With events comes the entrance of different energies so tools like Palo Santo and sage can prove to be essential in balancing flow. You can contact me at 512-740-1251 to learn more.

Scents That Create Zen

An easy way to enhance our space over the holiday is with the use of scents. I love essential oils like peppermint, eucalyptus, and lavender. Cinnamon is calming and cooling, cloves and berries create harmony and aromas of orange can encourage abundance and joy. You can even create a Cinnamon and Orange Slow Cooker Potpourri like this one for days at home to create a natural homemade scent that promotes positive energy and chi that’s both festive and effective.

As you are implementing these tips, keep in mind what you want to accomplish this holiday and how you can create a flow that benefits your lifestyle and end of year plans.

In the meantime, have a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!
