Feng Shui Tips for Maintaining Positivity, Balance, & Mental Health

May 1, 2024 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

As summer months approach, it’s a great opportunity to put focus on maintaining positivity, balance and good mental health. This is a time of year when things are hopefully slowing down for you to a point where you can achieve more of a work life balance and carve pockets of time out for yourself. Without these three being in sync with each other, it makes it hard to thrive in these technological, fast-paced times. Now is a great time to check-in and ask yourself, “How do I feel? Do I need to pause?” You can also ask, “Have I Feng Shui-ed my environment lately? Do I feel in alignment?”
If not, Feng Shui can help improve your body, mind, and spirit energy. These simple questions offer the opportunity to reflect on what needs a recharge. What needs some extra care this month. The last thing you want to do is reach a point of burnout so before that can happen, take these steps to get back on track using Feng Shui. Having a positive mindset can be achieved in a way that’s responsive to your interests. Positive thinking is proven to improve stress, increase productivity, lower rates of depression, increase longevity and lower levels of distress or pain.

You can do this in a couple of different ways:
  • Exercise regularly
  • Do yoga or Tai Chi
  • Practice Chi Gong (Qigong)
  • Practice Meditation (even if it’s just 5 or 10 minutes per day)
  • Body work or a chakra reset with a massage or reiki
  • Therapy if needed to process grief, resentments or anger
Soft tones like pastels transmit a sense of relaxation to our mind and body as well. In Feng Shui, blue tones helps with stress, anxiety and depression so this is a great way to transform a room for mindful practices like yoga, meditation, and tai chi. It might also be a good idea to avoid patterns in these rooms as it can be distracting as you wind down. The main goal in Feng Shui is a sense of order, cleanliness, and simplicity that allows energy to flow freely so you can live more harmoniously. Blue tones help achieving proper balance. For your relaxation space, avoid the use of too many mirrors as this can result in an unnecessary energy drain. You will want to leave this room feeling recharged versus sluggish.
When it comes to getting good, quality sleep this can be achieved with Feng Shui of your bedroom:
  • Minimal to no electronics or screens
  • Place your bed in a central, commanding position
  • Avoid mirrors in the sight line of your bed
  • Invest in a quality mattress tailored to your needs
  • Maximize air flow to feel fresh and clean
  • Achieve balance and symmetry using bedside tables on either side
  • Soothing, muted color tones like soft blues
  • Low-light, warm bulbs or night lights
  • Minimize books to what you are currently reading

These can all affect your energy levels and will drain energy at times when you least expect it. Technology can especially disrupt our circadian rhythms – the physical, mental, and behavioral changes we experience over a 24-hour cycle. Think of it as our bodies internal clock. Light and dark have the biggest influence on circadian rhythms, but food intake, stress, physical activity, social environment, and temperature also affect them.

Studies show that sleep deficiency changes activity in some parts of the brain. If you’re sleep deficient, this may result in trouble making decisions, solving problems, controlling emotions, and coping with change. A study published in the journal Indoor Air found that sleeping in well-ventilated rooms, whether through an open window or open door, led to enhanced sleep quality, reduced nighttime awakenings, and lower carbon dioxide levels. As the levels of carbon dioxide decreased, individuals experienced deeper and more uninterrupted sleep.

How the Feng Shui elements impact us psychologically:

Feng shui consists of five elements, each of which is said to have different impacts psychologically, ultimately affecting feelings of wellness and balance. This is great to keep in mind as you Feng Shui your space to achieve balance and harmony. You can easily tailor a space to be more creative, stable, balanced, etc. using elements like wood and earth as accents.

  • Earth: Grounding, security, stability, balance
  • Fire: Passion, enthusiasm, boldness, expressiveness
  • Metal: Clarity, focus, logic, critical thinking
  • Water: Abundance, prosperity, insightfulness, wisdom
  • Wood: Creativity, new life, growth, intuition

Spring Tips for Revitalizing Your Workspace

March 5, 2024 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

With spring comes higher temps, brighter rooms, a lower need for florescent lights, and more time to connect with the natural world around us. The great news is that spring can easily translate into your workspace with these easy Feng shui techniques to maximize on your productivity and reduce stress.

In the winter, the colder season brings dimmer lighting and naturally, less sunny days which makes a big impact on our work environment. With that said, let there be light! The best place to start with the start of spring is welcoming natural light as we take full advantage of the sun shining through our windows at work. Natural light brings the sun’s vibrant energy into our work day, promoting vitality and a sense of well-being, making it the most beneficial lighting source in Feng Shui. To maximize the flow of chi, ensure that your windows are clean and unobstructed, allowing ample natural light to enter your office. Now is the time to remove dust from the edges as well.

On the topic of dust, spring cleaning is in full effect so now is the best time to tidy up your office space and clear clutter, old papers and files, miscellaneous trash or wrappers, and a good mop/sweep or vacuum depending on what’s best for the space. Need a new rug? Need a new office chair? Time for an upgrade! Does your office feel stuffy? Add some plants for a touch of nature – incorporating nature is a great way to purify the air and cleanse a room’s energy. A few plants that are great for offices include lucky bamboo, succulents, golden pothos, money tree, bird of paradise, Boston Fern, and a snake plant. Your office is often a direct reflection of ourselves and our work styles so customize your space to your needs and what you generally prefer to focus and make the most of your time each week.

When it comes to a work space, it’s best to achieve balance and is generally recommended to avoid fire elements and bring in water and metal elements instead. This includes color as well – avoid red and instead use blues and other auspicious colors. Symbols of water reflect the Yin element and also symbolize abundance – a great way to bring success into your work life. Water also brings calm and flow to your workspace so it’s worth considering a small fountain, a metal sculpture, or a painting with different shades of blue.

It doesn’t take much to amplify an office’s natural chi energy. As a whole, simplicity is best for optimum focus and concentration so minimize decor and keep the space feeling open and clear of too many objects. The phrase “clear desk, clear mind” is well known and true. Keep your desk as organized as possible so that you can sit down and feel prepared to get to work with little distractions. You can even utilize your wall space to keep desktop space clear. You can add metal racks, wire baskets, or shelves to store important items. Avoid stacking these on your work space, this will only create a chaotic workspace with limited productivity. Many times, offices won’t use their wall or vertical space and many items end up on the floor or surfaces leaving other areas underutilized.

Label when you can! Labels are a great way to stay organized and easily sort through work information in a timely manner. At the end of the day, you don’t want to scramble looking for a file before a call or meeting. Sort your documents in a way that makes sense. Categorize by topic or month and store them in containers that compliment your other decor. This also allows you to go back and revisit old materials as needed for recycling.

Have important to-dos? Do you have continuous meetings? Create a bulletin board and calendar to keep track of important dates and tasks! Your mind is clear when you can sit back and know you are up-to-date and not missing anything timely.

Spring is a great time to get on track and stay organized for the year ahead. For more details on spring cleaning or a space clearing, contact me at 512-740-1251.

Prepare for the New Year with Feng Shui

October 21, 2023 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

prepare for the new year with feng shui

Even though it’s months away, now is the time to be preparing for the New Year ahead. The holidays are full of good feng shui energy so it’s a good time to do some of these things early.  No matter what the Chinese animal is for the Year, these tips still apply for end-of-year prosperity and prep for 2024.

The New Year is symbolic of a fresh start and preparations take time so it’s best to start the little details now for big results later. These tips bring happiness, prosperity, longevity, and good health, but also make your job a little easier come January. It’s a great way to lessen your load so you don’t save too much work for late in the year when you deserve a moment of rest and relaxation.

The good news is you can mix these in with holiday preparations… two birds with one stone! It’s a great way to make the most of your time and energy since it’s great to refresh your home for family gatherings and celebrations that come with November and December. You can customize these steps to your own liking and in any order you prefer so make it fun! Create a visual 2024 checklist and feel a sense of accomplishment when you finish an important part of your feng shui prep. We use creative methods with kids for things like chores and bedtime routines, but the same goes for adults to inspire us to take action during busy seasons:

    • Declutter your spaces: No space goes unnoticed and now is a great time to check if there are items in your garage, closet, office, attic or other space that could go to a new home. Consider what you no longer need or what no longer serves you and pass it along. This makes your space more intentional and ensures that you don’t have items taking up space and blocking energy from flowing freely. You can either donate the items, have a garage sale or re-gift to family and friends.
    • Organize the items that stay: Evergreen items like sentimental momentos can be properly stored and organized so they are easy to access throughout the New Year. You can do this through labels, bins and shelves. You can organize by month, holiday, occasion or even color!
    • Clean with purpose: In feng shui, cleaning goes beyond the usual sweeping and mopping which is important as well. Cleaning can also mean the energy that already exists in your home or office.
      • Smudging: Burn white sage like palo santo and waft the smoke throughout your home, paying special attention to corners and hidden spaces that can naturally be forgotten.
      • Saltwater cleansing: Saltwater has natural cleansing properties as well. You can mix sea salt with water to wipe down surfaces as this also clears a space’s energy. Salt lamps work well for this too. You can keep a salt lamp lit in rooms like the living room or bedroom where you really want to keep the energy flowing year round.
      • Sound therapy: Sounds make a big difference when revitalizing energy. The same way our bodies wake up by the sound of an alarm. Energy similarly wakes up through sound and vibrations. You can awaken energy through chimes, bells, singing bowls, clapping your hands or even instruments like drums and maracas. Take a trip to Half Price Books and you can also find some really natural, calming music that can be played in the background as well.
    • Be intentional going into 2024: Think about where you are today and all that you accomplished this year and re-purpose new intentions for 2024. Find a spot where you can play your intentions for easy viewing and place objects related to those intentions around this space. For example, if your intentions are related to prosperity, place gold items to enhance prosperous energy. If your intentions are related to love, place items like rose quartz in this space. You can really tailor your needs here and customize to where you are in life and where you see yourself this New Year.
    • Utilize the color red: Red is an auspicious fire element color in feng shui because it symbolizes abundance, power, energy, and represents a new beginning. Use the color red to attract joy, happiness and a good future. Find red accents to place throughout your space using decor, clothing and even accessories.
    • Spice up your space with scent: You can also consider healing oils for the holiday season to relieve stress, more energy, and joy! Essential oils are a great way to tailor a space to your liking, the scent options are endless and allow you to make a room your own with scents of lavender, peppermint, frankincense, orange, cinnamon, and more. If you’re interested in purchasing oils for the holiday season and New Year, visit my link at https://referral.doterra.me/8052433.
    • Bonus, take it one step further! 2024 marks the Year of the Dragon so you can incorporate the element of wood that is closely associated with this Chinese animal. In Chinese philosophy, the element of wood represents growth, progress, and the beginning stages of development.

    Blessings,

Feng Shui your wardrobe for fall and the holidays to create abundance

September 28, 2023 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

    feng shui fashion for fall

It’s officially autumn (fall) so as we expect cool temperatures to approach, we can start to prepare for a shift in our wardrobe. Items like shorts, summer dresses, and tanks will make their way into storage while sweaters, boots, and flannels will make their way into dressers as we anticipate cooler days and nights.

What are some colors you can wear to invite prosperity into your life and create abundance?

Fall is associated with Metal energy and an easy way to incorporate this is by wearing gold and silver jewelry. You can also do this by wearing accents of grays and black whether that be a black hat or leggings. This energy is associated with communication, creativity, inspiration, strength, and intelligence – all of which help us balance with the world around us. This is a great tip for the holidays as well because it’s a simple way to dress up any outfit while including bits of fall into your outfit.

Metal is powerful but you can balance it with Earth energy. You can incorporate earthy tones into your closet with browns, yellows, and greens of any shade you prefer to bring grounding and comforting energy to you. This is especially important when it comes to feeling cozy and relaxed at home. Fall is a great time to wind down from a hectic and busy year to enjoy time with family and friends. In fall, our yang energy naturally quiets down making our chi now yin with nature allowing us to slow down. This means it’s a great time to incorporate green colors

When it comes to your decor, the same rules apply but you can also utilize other autumnal colors to create an inviting, powerful, and positive space.

What are some other colors you add to your wardrobe?

    • Reds: The color attracts abundance and new opportunities especially when it’s incorporated into your front door decor. For an outfit, try adding a red bracelet or a shirt with hints of red in it that can pair well with the earth and metal colors.

    • Oranges: This color is very social and works well for gatherings. Do you want to encourage good conversations and a lively atmosphere? Try adding pumpkins and other orange tones to your outfit or decor.

Whether you are hosting an event or attending a holiday party, you can channel your intentions with your attire and connect the two for a prosperous fall season. Remember to go big and bold! The autumn colors leading up to holidays are the best time to wear feng shui colors like reds and metallics. They will uplift your mood and invite prosperity!

    Autumn Blessings,

    Belinda

Refresh Your Interior with Feng Shui for Fall

August 28, 2023 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

We reached record breaking temperatures this summer and as we begin to reach cooler months, it’s almost time to prepare our home and make way for autumn’s harvest. I’ll be sharing some easy ways for you to refresh your space for fall for even more prosperity to fuel the rest of your 2023. It’s said that autumn calms our yang energy and makes our chi yin with nature in perfect harmony. The first day of fall is officially on September 23, but the good news is it’s never too early to get details in order now and start planning the interior of your space. The personality trait for fall is focused on relationships, gratitude, and self-reflection – all are key priorities to keep in mind.
    • A big signal for fall and an easy way to differentiate your home or office from summer is through color. Hues of reds, oranges, yellows, and earthy tones are all auspicious colors, but don’t forget metals too as these symbolize strength and intelligence. Earthy tones make your space cozy and inviting which is important as we enter a time of year when friend and family gatherings are frequent. Earthy tones also connect your home to the grounding energy of Earth, a great way to end the year. Colors can be showcased through pumpkins, fall foliage, home decor, photos, blankets, pillows, wreaths, dinnerware and other accents. Store your summer feng shui essentials in bins for the next year and label for easy access, it’s a great way to keep your home clean and easily switch seasons and reduce clutter.
    • Since the yin energy of fall will intensify, you can expect the yang energy of summer to settle as you enter a season of comfortable temperatures and an opportunity for higher abundance to enter your life. Autumn naturally has quite soothing colors associated so finding creative ways to spotlight these throughout your space can make all the difference. Add accents of metal as well and mirror the effect that fall has on nature, the season of letting go as leaves fall from the trees, we are similarly reordering our space for something new as well. Metal helps to cultivate more joy and focus, you can incorporate whites as this pairs well with metals. Do this by adding fresh white sheets to your bed. Just as the trees are releasing leaves, let go and declutter to make room for new opportunities and new growth.
    • A great way to refresh your home and increase prosperity is to cleanse your home at the start of a new season as well. This can reset your space for the next four months ahead and prepares it for the transformative energy in fall. Looking to balance fall chi energy? Yang energy settles down in fall, but you can attract some of it back with your home accents and that use of color we talked about earlier. You can also do this by activating fire energy, this can be through candles or the use of a fireplace if you have one in your home. You can also use string lights, fairy lights or battery operated flickering candles to brighten dark rooms or corners, this makes a room more inviting and relaxing. Candles are an easy way to create a soothing scent and energy in a room, want to boost this even more? Try out a soy based, crackling wooden wick candle! This adds a calming sound to the room especially if you want to pair it with an ambience video playing in the background while you work, cook or read. You can easily search “fall ambience” on YouTube if you have guests over or just want to add an extra touch while you’re at home or working. You might even get some decor ideas this way.
    • Don’t forget to set your intentions and start a gratitude jar! Both play a big role in autumn months and allow you to put into the universe what you are hoping to achieve and appreciate heading into September.

If you would like to get more tips on how to refresh your interior for fall, you can contact me at 512-740-1251 to schedule a consultation or appointment, or if you are interested in a space clearing for your fall reset.

    Blessings,
    Belinda
