Feng Shui for the Landscape

August 14, 2017 by Belinda Mendoza 1 Comment

As we all know, feng shui is the art of harmonious placement.  It’s helpful to have an intention for your outdoor space. Do you want it to be playful, meditative, or rejuvenating? Do you want it to attract wealth and abundance? Harmony, abundance, and balance can all be attained using the landscaping features outside your home.

If you have a strong desire to shift or manifest something like better health then you can design your garden to help attract those things.  In feng shui design, the patio, garden, or lawn area are considered an extension of a life area.   Depending on what sector your patio falls in, you can attract those things you desire by adding energy to it.

Feng Shui For High Rise Condo Living

July 22, 2017 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

Despite smaller room for design, feng shui in condos has so much potential. If you are lucky enough to have great views from your condo this can definitely enhance the overall good feng shui.  Keep your condo bright and spacious so energy flows easily and doesn’t get stagnant. While these tips apply to high rises, any condo owner can benefit.

What to invest your money and time in?

  • A bright hall or entrance attracts good energies to not only come but stay.
  • Make sure no “pointy” structures or buildings are directly facing you. Think of them as arrows that break apart good energy.
  • Choose a condo with the best view possible. Views of nature and water are auspicious.
  • Buy a condo that’s in good shape. Avoid purchasing one that has lots of issues because it can cause issues for those that live there.
  • Buy a condo on middle floor, not top or bottom to allow for more balancing chi flow.
  • Keep good energies active by implementing high-quality decor and include protective symbols like foo dogs near entrances whenever possible.
  • Always keep the entrance clean and clear of clutter.
  • Bring nature in with live plants and flowing water inside or on the patio.

Details, Details, Details! The Front Door

The entrance not only attracts energy, but it actually absorbs what goes in and out so keeping the vicinity of the front door healthy is an important section of your condo that shouldn’t be forgotten. In most cases, the front door is where your home originally gets its energy from. A door that has a strong, balanced quality of energy will create positive chi throughout your condo. A well-lit front door will keep your condo safe and protected from bad energy as well. While on the subject of doors, never purchase a condo that has direct door alignment because it creates a strong rush of Chi which results in a loss of good energy. The walkway towards the front door should be a meandering, windy path (imitating the flow of water) versus a sharp pathway for better Chi.

If living in the cement pond (old Beverly Hillbillies reference), meaning you are downtown in the hustle and bustle of traffic, people, and buildings… create a sense of tranquility, beauty, and peace inside with fabulous artwork.  Art that depicts nature scenes has water flowing, etc. will all help to add a great feeling. When you feel better in your space, you do better!

Feng Shui For Yachts

June 22, 2017 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

Feng Shui at sea! It’s the season of summer and it’s not uncommon to have some fun in the sun. You might wonder if someone is fortunate enough to have a yacht why would they need feng shui?  Feng Shui is not just about money.  It is about harmony and abundance as well as safety.  Whether you own a ship or a yacht, feng shui plays an important role in the energy you experience on the water.

A helpful tip to prevent seasickness is to make sure you don’t put an oversized door at the entrance of a small bathroom. Instead, hang a mirror or piece of art on the outside of the door! This will reflect frequent trips to the bathroom and prevent your guests from getting indigestion while onboard.

As you might have guessed, a boat or yacht naturally has plenty of water energy so we want to avoid creating more by staying away from dark colors like black or navy blue. This may cause a very uncomfortable journey for your guests. Other colors are more balancing.

Want some travel luck? Place a conch shell inside the yacht to provide yourself with a protective shield that relieves stress. Write a wish for safety on a piece of paper and place inside the shell.  Bonus tip! Shells are also a symbol of good communication, prosperity, and healthy relationships so grab your bucket and head to the beach for some feng shui approved decorations.  To have a prosperous and happy cruising experience, add some feng shui energy to your design/décor.  Happy boating!

Feng Shui For College Dorms

June 6, 2017 by Belinda Mendoza Leave a Comment

Exams, assignments, jobs, and classes fill the lives of college students around the world. After a long day, they often sleep and study in a 100-200 square feet of space they call their own. A dorm room, although small in size, shapes long-lasting memories and life-defining moments.

It’s been said that the environment that surrounds us impacts the way we act and behave. The doorway to the dorm room is both the entrance and the exit so like any door, it opens to welcome opportunities. A helpful tip is to place a red “bagua mirror” on or above the front door. The color red symbolizes good fortune and the mirror prevents negative energy from entering your room.

From essays to resumes, electronics have quickly become the main tool for success, but in Feng Shui, a bed is not the place for work. A good night’s sleep is essential to a healthy student lifestyle so it’s always suggested to place electronics away from the bed so that electromagnetic frequencies do not interrupt you as you recharge for a new day.

Greenery not only promotes health, but it can also really liven up a space. A busy lifestyle requires a plant that is easy to maintain and beneficial to the room where it’s placed. Lucky bamboo is a popular Feng Shui plant as its know for health and longevity.  It also can contain the five feng shui elements:

  • WOOD – the plant itself
  • EARTH – rocks and stones and the foot of the plant
  • WATER – the water needed for growth
  • FIRE – a red object (typically a ribbon tied around the plant)
  • METAL – a glass pot or a ceramic holder with a metal object attached

Make the most out of your college experience by adopting some Feng Shui principles and tips for your life. Remove clutter and fill your space with images that bring you closer to home. The best way to learn about yourself is through Feng Shui. It allows you to be the interior designer of your life!
